Established in 2009, the Dean Trail Volunteers is an independent group of riders from all disciplines and backgrounds, working in partnership with Forestry England to develop and maintain the official mountain bike trails in the Forest of Dean. We are all volunteers who share a passion for mountain biking and the trails we ride on. Our aim is to create and maintain a variety of enjoyable and challenging XC and DH trails for locals and visitors alike and to positively promote mountain biking in the area.
Although we work in partnership with Forestry England, we are not funded by them. We depend on support and generous donations from the MTB community to enable us to continue developing and maintaining the trails. From tools and materials, PPE to pens and paper, all the money raised helps to pay for everything that we need to get the job done. So please consider a donation or a purchase from one of our table sales.
We want to build great trails, safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Our more regular and dedicated volunteers are given the opportunity to attend courses in first aid, trail quality and inspection, volunteer coordination, equipment certification and more.
Ongoing trail inspection and project planning is a vital part of what we do. Before we can deploy our hard working volunteers we need to know what needs to be done so that we can plan our digs as effectively as possible.
After all the fund raising, inspections, planning, training and decision making it all comes down to what we love best - digging and riding awesome mountain bike trails!
We all have a key role to play in the battle against tree pests and diseases, and the importance of our actions has never been greater.
As part of our operations, we practice good tool hygiene. This means that we make sure that all of our tools and equipment are cleaned at the end of every dig, helping to prevent the spread of any disease. You can also help by cleaning your bike and kit after your ride and before you visit trails in other locations.
Pests and disease can be devastating, and no one wants to ride a hill side that has been stripped of its trees.
